The Irish Architectural Archive is seeking to recruit a qualified archivist on a full-time, fixed-term basis to acquire, catalogue and provide access to records of Arts Council architecture funding awards.
Background and Role
Established in 1976, the Irish Architectural Archive (IAA) collects and preserves the records of Irish architecture – from the earliest structures to contemporary buildings – and makes these freely available to all who wish to consult them.
The Arts Council of Ireland is the Irish government agency for developing the arts, including architecture.
The Arts Council has engaged the IAA to provide architecture research and archiving services relating specifically to the delivery of a public-facing digital repository, linked to the Arts Council website, documenting Arts Council funding awards in architecture.
To advance this project, the IAA wishes to recruit an Archivist who will inter alia:
- engage with Arts Council architecture awards recipients to determine the nature and extent of documentation available from them relating to each award
- arrange for the transfer of documentation from recipients to the IAA
- catalogue the documentation received
- develop work-flows and recommendations which will facilitate the continuing development of the architecture awards collection.
Reporting to the IAA CEO, and working closely with other members of the IAA team, the successful candidate will also support the daily operations of the IAA and complete such other duties as may be required.
The successful candidate must have a post-graduate qualification in archive management, information management or related field.
The successful candidate should also have excellent organisation and time management skills, coupled with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure, and the capacity to work as part of a team or on their own initiative.
Some familiarity with handling, organising and processing digital archival collections is desirable, as is an interest in Irish architecture, and a willingness to contribute to a positive working environment.
Applicants must be fluent in English and be eligible to work in Ireland. To qualify, candidates must be eligible by the date of any job offer.
Note: this job description is a guide to broad areas of responsibility and accountability and should not be regarded as a comprehensive listing. It may be subject to review in light of the changing needs of the IAA and the project.
