The Architect as Artist: Paintings by Brendan Millar

Wexford-born architect, Brendan Millar, rediscovered painting after retiring from Arthur Gibney and Partners Architects in 2008. His paintings tend to be abstract compositions and landscapes in acrylic, oils, conte and pastels. Also included in the exhibition is a small selection of work which dates back to his student days. Key influences include Robin Walker, the Bauhaus, the New York School of Art, Mies Van der Rohe, Le Corbusier, and Munch.

Brendan Millar was born 1939 and graduated from the School of Architecture, Bolton Street, Dublin, in 1965. He joined Stephenson, Gibney and Associates as a graduate architect, and later worked for Scott Tallon Walker Architects and Arthur Gibney and Partners Architects. His Irish Management Institute Conference Facility, Dublin, won several awards including he RIAI Best Commercial Building, 2005. Over the course of his career he served as Honorary Secretary of the RIAI, Chairman of the Architectural Graduates Association, and Studio Tutor at the School of Architecture, Bolton Street.
